ACCM review

This review of Bejewelled Blitz contains the following information:

App description

This popular puzzle app is available on most platforms and remains the same across all modes. Within the game, the player has to connect collections of matching coloured jewels, earning points and ‘bonus gems’ by connecting longer chains.

Reviewers comments

This puzzle app, while essentially a simple colour matching activity is engaging as it rewards players with sounds, animations and points. If playing while connected through a social networking platform, the game also publishes results to your timeline and shares high scores. Game play can be short (one minute per round) – with players progressing through levels, playing friends and virtual opponents. Competition between others is encouraged with rewards for connecting with “friends” through online social networking platforms such as Facebook.

Each day players are also allowed to have a “free spin” to earn additional points (virtual coins) and rewards. This “free spin” simulates a simple poker machine.

Online information

The player earns additional points if they connect with peers online and through social media.

Gambling

Players are invited to have a “free spin” each day. This free spin allows the player to earn additional rewards and simulates a poker machine in sounds, animation and response. The App version of the game has a simulated poker machine lever.

Advertising and product placement

The facebook version of the game has advertising around the page, but the game itself did not have advertising at the time of review (on any platform).

Game playing behaviour which may be of concern to some parents

No game playing behaviour which may be of concern for parents apart from the gambling behaviours mentioned above.

About games and gambling

Most games contain elements of risk, chance and knowledge, that is why they are fun to play. There is growing concern about the impacts of simulated gambling games on the health and wellbeing of children. That's why we are identifying games that contain gambling elements on our site.

The State Government of South Australia's web site http://nogame.com.au/ contains information about these concerns.
