App description

SwapTales: Leon! is a digital version of a Choose Your Own Adventure book, allowing the player to influence the story line by swapping certain words around, and thereby determining what happens next. At the same time, the player needs to decide in which way to arrange the exchangeable words so that the story makes sense.

Reviewers comments

The app combines story telling and puzzle solving, challenging the player to use their imagination and creativity as well as thinking logically to let the story unfold. The alternative endings are in fact dead ends and, if stuck, the player is given hints and prompted to rethink and try out alternatives. With up to 7 exchangeable words per page, this may foster problem-solving and persistence. The “two players” mode encourages revealing Leon's story together with family or friends. There is also an option to switch to French, German, Italian or Spanish. As there is no read-aloud option, guidance from an adult may be necessary. The story as well as the use of some sarcasm might also be a little bit confusing and too complex for younger children.

About games and gambling

Most games contain elements of risk, chance and knowledge, that is why they are fun to play. There is growing concern about the impacts of simulated gambling games on the health and wellbeing of children. That's why we are identifying games that contain gambling elements on our site.

The State Government of South Australia's web site http://nogame.com.au/ contains information about these concerns.
