"In January the ratings system for Australian material changed and a new R18+ classification was introduced. The change followed concerns that material given an adult classification overseas - or refused classification altogether - was inappropriately wedged into an MA15+ rating. The theory was that a new R18+ category would bring Australia more in line with other countries and restrict extremely violent games to an adult audience. But analysis from the Australian Council on Children and the Media released this week suggests that has not happened. ACCM argue that of the 23 video games given an MA15+ rating in the first 2 1/2 months of this year, 16 were given an adult rating overseas."
