App description

In Star Wars Commander, players must build their base and train military in order to either defend or attack other players. There is also Story Mode which guides the player through a number of different battle-style objectives. Successful battles earn players credits which can be used to upgrade with things such as soldiers, heroes, buildings and space ships. Game play is relatively simple. Players choose the area on the battlefield to drop their military and attacking and defending occurs automatically without player direction. Hence, there isn’t much strategy required beyond good placement on the field. Players can also join squads and friends online (through Facebook) which allows real time chatting – therefore this game is not recommended for children under 13 years.

Reviewers comments

Parents need to be aware that this game contains crates or loot boxes which give the player random items or rewards which can be used in the game. There is a “daily” crate rewarded (for free) but from there all other crates must be purchased using Crystals (which need to be purchased with real money). As progression through the game is quite slow some children may be tempted to use their Crystals to speed up progress and/or acquire heroes and weapons sooner. The better your weapons – the better chance of winning. Hence, the crates represent a “buy to win” element which may encourage online spending.
