Sally and Conrad’s mother is called into work so Mrs. Kwan has to babysit them, but she falls asleep. It is a rainy day and Sally and Conrad are bored. Suddenly the Cat in the Hat appears in their closet and tries to make the children’s day more fun. The Cat brings Thing One and Thing Two into the house and they make a huge mess. The Cat in the Hat continues to make the children’s day messy and wild. Sally and Conrad must learn to work together so they can fix the house before their mother comes home.
