What’s it about?

Mike has always wanted to be a scary monster and so he’s really pleased when he gets into the Scare Program at Monsters University. It’s there he meets Sulley who already looks scary because he’s so big.  At first Sulley and the other students make fun of Mike because he’s so small and doesn’t look at all scary so Mike has to work extra hard to prove he can be scary too by using his brains.

What to look out for

There’s quite a lot of scary scenes in this movie which could frighten younger kids such as:

  • A monster scares a child who screams for some time.
  • A scary librarian slug roars and grabs the monsters if they make noise .
  • Monster children breath fire at other monsters.
  • All the monsters practise their scary roars on each other and pretend children.
  • Mike is bullied at school and at university. He also gets left out and called names.

Moral of the Story

The messages of the story are that you have to keep trying to succeed and it’s important to have friends and work well with others in a team.
