What’s it about?

Dusty is a crop-duster who’s flown thousands of miles but hasn’t seen anything of the world. When he sees a competition called ‘Wings around the World’ he decides to enter so that he can at last see something other than crops. When he turns up to register, all of the other fancy planes laugh at him, particularly Ripslinger, three times champion of the competetion.

Dusty finally gets accepted into the competition and asks an old WW11 plane called Skipper to help train him. Dusty isn’t the fastest plane but he often comes to the rescue of other planes who get into trouble. So when he finds himself in trouble it’s time for the other planes to help  him out.

What to look out for

There is some action violence in this movie such as:

  • Ripslinger is a mean plane who wants to win at all costs. On several occasions he tries to stop Dusty by having his friends attack him and trying to push Dusty out of the sky.
  • Skipper remembers a scene from the war when all of the planes in his squadron are shot down in flames. He’s the only one to survive.

There are also several scenes when Dusty is in danger which might scare younger kids such as:

  • Dusty is landing on a runway and is nearly swamped and crushed by a jet plane.
  • Dusty has to fly through bad weather and storms and through icebergs.
  • Dusty flies through a tunnel because he’s afraid of heights, scrapes along the wall and nearly crashes into an approaching train.
  • Dusty has to fly through a very bad storm and because he’s flying low he crashes into a huge wave and sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

Moral of the Story

The message from this movie is to follow your dreams and not to be concerned by what others see as your limitations.
