Shrek is a grumpy green ogre who loves his life in the mucky, slimy, swamp. His life gets turned upside down though when his swamp is invaded by three blind mice, Tinkerbell, the three little pigs and many other fairy-tale characters who’ve been banished from their homes in the Kingdom of Dulac by mean Lord Farquart.
Shrek decides to go and have this out with Lord Farquart and takes along Donkey, a loveable and annoying creature. Lord Farquart at first wants to kill Shrek, but they come to a deal that he will allow the fairy-tale characters back into Dulac if Shrek can rescue Princess Fiona from a castle where she’s being held captive. Shrek and Donkey set out on what becomes a dangerous, adventure filled journey.
