The Pirates! Band of Misfits
What age is this for?
What’s it about?
The Pirate Captain and his crew are on their latest adventure to capture lots of gold so that the Pirate Captain can win the Pirate of the Year Award. These pirates get everything wrong though and always attack the wrong sort of ships like ghost ships and plague ships. They finally attack a ship with Charles Darwin on board who immediately sees that the Pirate Captain’s parrot Polly is, in fact, a long, lost Dodo. Charles Darwin thinks he can steal Polly and become famous by winning the Scientist of the Year Award.
What to look out for
- Some of the Pirates are quite scary especially Cutlass Liz and the Pirate King.
- There’s a lot of slapstick violence – done for laughs such as people getting shot at and stabbed with swords.
- Queen Victoria is a mad person who almost kills Polly and who orders the Pirate King’s head to be chopped off but he’s saved just in time.
Moral of the Story
People and animals are more valuable than gold and winning awards.
