What’s it about?

The Smurfs are little blue people who live in a village far, far away in an enchanted forest. The Smurfs are in danger though because an evil wizard, Garganel, wants to capture them and use them as ingredients for a spell to turn lead into gold.

One day the Smurfs are trying to escape Garganel when they are caught up in a huge space vacuum which takes them to New York City. Unfortunately Garganel and his wicked cat Azrael follow them there. The Smurfs have to find some big people to look after them and help them get back to their village.

What to look out for

Quite a lot of cartoon violence in this movie such as:

  • The Smurfs slap, hit and kick each other.
  • The man Patrick, punches and slaps several Smurfs and tries to hit them with an umbrella.
  • The Smurfs pelt Garganel with eggs and apples implanted with pins and hit him over the head with a frying pan.
  • Smurfette hits the cat Azrael in the head.

There are also some scenes that might scare younger kids such as:

  • Papa Smurf sees Ghosts in a vision.
  • Garganel looks really eerie and scary when casting spells.

Moral of the Story

The message of the story is that co-operating and working together as a team helps to get things done.
