This review of ABC Wildlife contains the following information:
Seven of 15 levels were played and multiple letter videos previewed
This educational alphabet app opens with a choice of videos or flashcards. The flashcards display a picture of an animal or an insect in quick succession and this is accompanied by a depiction of the animal/insect name and its vocalisation. Players must then match a depicted animal or insect with its name from two choices. Success is rewarded with a sticker and a short mini matching game where the animal name and picture must be matched. If videos are selected a grid of photos appears depicting animals or insects for each letter of the alphabet. Kids can then explore each animal in more detail by watching a video or completing an activity. Tapping the "abc" button returns the player to the full alphabet grid or tapping a letter in the animal name takes the player to a list of animals that begin with that letter.
Parental co-play is recommended as the game may prove frustrating for pre or early readers as parts of the game rely on quite complex word recognition/reading. In the video grid section, the animal or insect name is depicted, along with the letter to promote letter name recognition and letter word association. Exploring each animal begins with first letter and word vocalization, the animal name displayed in lowercase letters and a short interactive video or activity. Tapping a game character brings up a fact about the animal which is not vocalised. Tapping any of the letters within the animal name allows players to jump to another animal that starts with that letter, and the process repeats.
