This review of Archaeologist Egypt: Boy & Girl Educational Games contains the following information:
All levels available in the free version were played.
The app consists of a series of virtual treasure hunts. Each hunt starts with clearing the entrance, such as a pyramid or cave, with a pickaxe. Inside, fragments of an ancient artefact need to be excavated. The recovered pieces are then cleaned and reassembled in a number of steps using different archaeologist's tools, like a brush and chisel. Children can read facts relating to the treasure and thereby learn about the history of Ancient Egypt.
Playing Archaeologist Egypt gives an insight into the work of an archaeologist by introducing the basic steps and tools required to uncover, clean and reconstruct ancient artefacts. The procedures and activities are the same for each treasure hunt, which can quickly become quite repetitive. While the actual treasure hunt is self-explanatory and suitable to be played by young children, the provided historic facts are only useful for children who can read, as the app does not provide a read-aloud option. Also, while the facts are interesting, the language, choice of vocabulary and presentation of facts are too complex for a very young audience. The parent's section is protected through a basic maths problem (e.g. 2+2 = ?) and contains options to rate and review on iTunes, share on Facebook, and access the developer's website. The start page features a button linking to related apps that can be purchased through the App Store. Parental Guidance and/or co-playing is therefore recommended for under 9’s.
Through the parents' section, which has limited protection, access is available to:
