This review of Baby Learning Games -for Toddlers & Preschool Kids contains the following information:
All elements (free levels) of the game were explored.
Baby Learning Games -for Toddlers & Preschool Kids is an educational app that focuses on teaching and learning early, basic, mathematical concepts and cognitive skills.
The app is interactive and encourages toddlers and preschool children to begin recognising colours, shapes, patterns, pairs, matching and sorting, similarities and differences and measurement (big & small). At the time of the review the app had 3 different “worlds” available to play in (a fourth coming soon). The children choose a number in each of the 'worlds' to begin playing the game. There are 8 free games within each 'world' and there are a number of locked games that require payment to gain access. The games range in complexity and variety from matching coloured toys into the same coloured basket to making a rocket and astronaut fly into space by matching shapes and corresponding colours.
Each of the world’s activities slightly increase in difficulty. The children are not required to complete each level in order to progress to the next, which gives them a lot of flexibility around choosing the games.
Some parental assistance may be required to assist in understanding the basic maths concepts and to assist with familiarising the child with the games. CAUTION: There are many ads present and these are not always child appropriate. The advertising appears throughout the activities and once an activity is completed. Therefore, co-play is advised (at least initially) as players will be required to close the ad before proceeding.
Baby Learning Games -for Toddlers & Preschool Kids contains activities that are visually appealing, with engaging, bright and colourful animated characters. The activities offer a fun educational way for young children to be introduced to early, basic, maths concepts. Examples of activities include, choosing the correct size dog that matches its kennel, finding the two matching pairs of socks on the clothesline or making a woodfired pizza by matching ingredients. All the activities provide the opportunity for the child to use and develop cognitive skills that will be built upon in later years. These varied activities are reasonably slow paced so it allows the child plenty of time to complete the game. However, once the child is proficient, the novelty of the games may wear off quickly.
There are no written instructions, the instructions are either verbal or visual. However, at times, it was difficult to hear the voice offering instructions in the games as the music that was in the background was quite dominating. There is the ability to mute the music in the settings.
Each activity in the 3 'worlds' is reasonably short, which will likely assist in holding the child’s attention and keeping them engaged. The player is praised throughout the games and when they complete each activity they are rewarded with confetti, cheers and applause, providing positive reinforcement.
Basic fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination are required, as all the activities involve tapping, dragging, sliding or pressing fingers onto the screen.
There is In-App purchasing in this game, examples include:
Some in-app purchases are not purchases as such as they are free of cost ‘extensions’. They require solving a maths problem to get to the app store.
