This app is a continuous runner style game, set within an American Football (Grid Iron) theme. Players need quick reaction times and fast mental processing to play. Due to saturated advertising and in-app purchasing, this app is not suitable for children under 8 and parental guidance is recommended for ages 9 – 15.

This review of Blocky Football contains the following information:
Game played for several days.
In Blocky Football, players must navigate their grid iron football star through an on-ground ‘maze’, consisting of approaching opposition players, as well as their own stationary team mates. The aim is to make it to the end zone for a touchdown. As your player runs forward automatically, all you must do is swipe left and right to avoid a tackle. Once a touchdown has been made, the player then has a chance at kicking a field goal. This is achieved by tapping the screen once when the (fast moving) arrow aligns into the correct position. Kicking a field goal in the correct alignment earns the player a key. Once you have 3 keys, you can then play a side game where you must choose 3 out of 6 boxes. If you match 3 symbols, then you unlock an item to use in the game (e.g.; a new team). The aim of the game is to keep running, whilst earning points and unlocking more features.
Blocky Football has a lot of ads. In fact, for every 5 mins of play you’re likely to come across 6 to 8 pop-up ads between screen transitions. These are most often ads that you can’t click out of before a set time (of either 5 to 30 seconds). In some cases, ads need to be clicked out of twice before returning to the game, this can cause unintentional opening of the app store. They do give you the option to remove ads (which costs $4.49) or you can disable ads for 10 min by (ironically) watching an ad. If you don’t select either option, you have to press a button which says: “No thanks, Enable Ads”. Many kids may become annoyed by the constant ad interruption and seek $4.49 from parents to remove them.

There are many pop-up ads in Blocky Football. See notes on advertising above.
From the 80 unlockable characters, only 4 are female. In addition, the female characters have names such as “Pom Poms”, “Cutie” and “Cheerleader”, which some may view as negatively stereotypical and superficial within a male dominated game.
None of concern.
