This review of Classify it! contains the following information:
Our Reviewer explored all levels of this game.
Classify It! is an educational quiz game that focuses on grouping like organisms. There are three modes: easy, intermediate and advanced. Each mode has 10 levels to complete. A series of colourful tiles is shown on the screen and the player uses their finger to slide a lever which causes the tiles to flip over and reveal an illustration of either a plant or an animal. A written question appears on the screen, asking the player to tap on all the tiles that show animals or plants belonging to a specific category (e.g. organisms that migrate, mammals/reptiles, organisms with exoskeletons etc.). Correct responses can unlock the next level within each mode. To keep children motivated, they can earn and collect ‘creature cards’ for correct responses, learning more detailed information about animals. Children can also choose their own avatar to play with, from a selection of twelve different creatures.
Classify it! is a very enjoyable game designed to improve science-based vocabulary and the understanding of certain types of classifications or categories. Some of the questions may be interpreted in several ways, so learning the developer’s perception of the correct answer sometimes required repeating segments a number of times. On a very rare occasion the reviewer found the game contradicted it’s own answers. Repetition of the questions is useful for the younger player but may be less challenging for an older child.
Parents should be aware that access to the game Credits requires a simple parental lock code that any reading child would be able to understand. The links provided in the credits are bibliographic links to animal photos.
This app will require a reading co-player for younger users as it relies on written questions. Whilst being safe, some of the content may require explanations from an informed companion to clarify the nature of the group being classified.
At the time of review, the reviewer found no simulated gambling content. If you discover simulated gambling content in this app, please contact us with the details so we can update our review.
Note for parents: The style of this game loosely mimics the action of a slot machine. The player begins a level by sliding a lever across and tiles flip over in a random action with an affect not dissimilar to the turning of the pictures on a slot machine. Accompanying this are sounds that are reminiscent of gaming machines. At the end of each turn a score is calculated and the accompanying sound is also like that used on gaming machines.
