This app is an interactive educational app based on the popular American children’s TV show, Sesame St. The main objective is to teach younger children how to recognise, write and count numbers. In the opening screen Elmo and Abby (characters from Sesame St) introduce the theme of numbers. Then a screen appears that asks the user to tap one of the numbers displayed on the screen. The player is then asked to trace a larger version of this letter with their finger. Once this task is completed correctly the player has the choice of playing a game, watching a TV segment, or colouring in. These activities are based on the number chosen and the content reinforces the player’s knowledge in this area. In the ‘Lite’ version only the number ‘1,2,3’ are available. To gain access to the rest of the letters the player must pay $7.99. There are no ads or in-app purchases. There is a parent section which has a score card of progress and activity for each player.
This app provides many numeracy based learning opportunities for the younger child including recognising, writing and counting numbers. The use of popular characters, music, video, and interactive activities are a fun way of engaging children in this type of learning.
