This review of Khan Academy contains the following information:
Our reviewer considered and observed a representative selection of content from each category.
Khan Academy provides free tutorials, videos, articles, and exercises. These are divided by topic, age group, and school year. In addition there is a section of content for specific school tests based on the American school system (e.g. SAT or GMAT). There is no section for similar Australian tests. The app features content provided by partners like Tate, the American Museum of Natural History, or NASA, as well as educational and inspirational talks and interviews. According to the developer, there are over 10,000 videos and more than 40,000 practice questions to discover.
Khan Academy content includes:
The app covers an enormous range of educational content and study support tools. Content is targeted towards both children and adult learners at all levels (Kindergarten through to University), however for younger children or not-so-confident readers (ages 5 to 10) parents may need to guide or demonstrate the use. It can be used as an effective learning aid whether the goal is to support, solidify and practice school content or to deepen or refresh one's knowledge in an area of interest.
While it is not required to create a profile in order to enjoy the full content of Khan Academy, the user has the option to do so. With a profile, the user can collect rewards such as "energy points" and "badges" which may add further learning incentive. Parents should be aware that creating a profile requires a Facebook or Google account through which the user logs in. Logging in through Facebook does not automatically lead to connecting or sharing with other users.
There was no in-app purchasing found.
Khan Academy can be used without creating a profile or log in. However, in order to create a user profile, a Google or Facebook account is required. This does not automatically lead to interaction with other users and there is no private messaging function on the app.
