Our Reviewer played several levels of this game.
Khan Academy kids is a complete collection of educational tools for young children. It includes storybooks, videos, colouring, learning the alphabet and numbers, learning to read, and logic games. To begin, a parent must sign in with an email account, and then, after swiping in a particular direction (for security) a child’s name and age is added and connected with a chosen avatar. Several children can use the app with their own unique avatar.
The opening screen introduces the five friendly characters that accompany the child on his/her learning discovery. The early stages of the game involve dragging and dropping objects to sort them. It then continues to counting, letter recognition, logic skills, colouring and game playing. The child has to tap on objects to get the correct responses.
At any time, the large library of contents can be accessed by tapping the home screen. This includes a vast array of books (which can either be read by the child or to the child), videos, colouring, alphabet, numbers and logic skills. There are also sections on Animal Safari, baby animals, backyard wildlife, vehicles, National Geographic Young Explorer and Alphabet books.
Khan Academy for Kids is colourful and easy to use which will appeal to both children and parents alike. It contains thousands of interactive activities developed for toddlers, pre-schoolers and kindergarten age children. It covers a wide range of subjects such as reading, writing, maths and language in a fun and playful environment. As a free app it is quite impressive. Fine motor skills are needed to play and the app will help to develop problem-solving skills.
Parental guidance and/or co-playing is a requirement for this app as a parent needs to login to the app and create an account with their email address. The parent also has to set up the child’s access. The only drawback with this app is that the language is American English.
There is some online accessibility in this app, for example:
