This review of LEGO Juniors Create and Cruise contains the following information:
There is a single race that may be played multiple times within this game. The app was played for an hour.
LEGO Juniors Create and Cruise is a race-based app that allows players to built objects and statures, as well as gain new costumes for their characters, via playing through a single race repeatedly. The objective is to play through the race and unlock new things to build as a result of obtaining tokens along the way. The skills required to play are geometric, as well as spatial/visual in regards to lego building, and motor skills in relation to navigating the lego character’s vehicle.
When the app is opened, players are brought to a title screen containing a flashing button with an image of a vehicle. There is also a button with an image of a trophy on it. Upon clicking the flashing button, players are brought to a page where they may create their own vehicle through a range of options. There are several vehicle bodies and tyres to select from. Items must be attached to the vehicle by clicking and dragging them onto the car. After this, players are brought to a side-scroller screen as they drive their vehicle through a winding outdoor path, collecting small tokens as they go. Players must push and hold an accelerator button, and only have control over the movement forwards, as opposed to backwards or sideways. Once a certain number of tokens are collected, a reward is given to players.
After reaching the finish line of this particular path, players may begin to build a new vehicle. After completing the race a second time and collecting more tokens, players receive more rewards in the form of other items to add – for example, a new hat or police vest for their character to wear. Upon finishing the second run-through, players must build a small boulder machine by clicking and dragging the parts of it upon itself. These objects that are created post-race are placed throughout the track, for players to pass by as they run the course again. As the levels continue, these end-of-race objects become more complex and challenging to put together, with different parts and shapes being needed to complete them. Within the Achievements section of the app, it is possible for players to view all the previous structures they have built at the end of each race – they may elect to build them again within this section of the app.
The app does not pose any overt risks to children, and may provide a fun way of practice motor skills and geometry.
