This review of Mickeys Magical Maths World contains the following information:
There are 5 early math concept areas to explore (counting, add & subtract, shapes, numbers and sort and match and all free functionality was played in each one.
Featuring 3-D graphics and recognisable Disney characters, this maths app exposes kids to early mathematical concepts with increasing difficulty as ideas are mastered. Fine motor skills are required to drag and drop items for counting or pattern matching and therefore, younger children may require guidance. Children can also explore their creativity and imagination by designing robots and ships. Parental co-play is recommended to work through the different areas such as counting, pattern identification and number writing. There is limited functionality in the free version and the entire maths package costs $30.99 which includes a full curriculum. Individual curriculum items such as counting or sorting can be purchased for $7.99. There is no instruction or explanation of incorrect answers, although the source of the error shakes to allow the player to correct.
In addition to the numerical concepts around counting, addition and subtraction, parents can also talk about sorting and classifying objects both within the game and in the real world. Children can be asked to describe their rational for sorting which encourages them to think about the characteristics (e.g. colour, shape) they use, beginning with one characteristic and progressing from there. Interacting with the app requires observational, fine motor and early numerical skills, and parental co-play is recommended for younger children. There is in-app purchasing and advertising of Disney products, however both can be disabled.
The full suite of individual maths concepts can be purchased within the app ranging from $7.99/item to $30.99 for the full suite. Apps by the same developer and Disney can also be purchased.
