This app is designed to firstly teach children about a wide range of shapes, and secondly to test their knowledge in this area. On the menu page the player can open the geometry cabinet and complete a puzzle using six families of geometric shapes or read up on 29 different shapes/angles in a glossary (where the narrator clearly annunciates the name of each item). Following this there are a variety of games or activities that can be played to test and consolidate the player’s knowledge. These include find the next shape; odd one out; shape quiz; shape sorter, mix and match and more. The games range from very basic to advanced. For more advanced players there is a section on 3D shapes. Fine motor skills are required to click on or shift shapes across the screen. There are many learning opportunities within this app including shape and colour recognition; development of vocabulary, literacy and numeracy skills, problem solving and matching skills.
This educational app provides the opportunity to learn about geometry as it would be taught in an educational setting. There are some simple rewards including points and trophies that some players will enjoy collecting, and if in an educational setting, the teacher can set up a page for each child and check their progress.
As soon as the app is opened ‘a grown up’ is requested to make an account by entering their date of birth. There are several sections that can be accessed with this login including a parents zone giving more information on the Montessori teaching method that the content in this app originated from.
