This review of School A-Z contains the following information:
All activities completed.
School A to Z was an initiative by the Department of Education in NSW and is designed to give Australian children and their parents homework assistance. The App acts as a dictionary for technology, maths and English and gives access to pre-approved content for assistance with assignments. The App also contains mini-games for tables and spelling.
This free App is an impressive resource for parents of children in primary schools. The dictionaries (provided for technology, maths and English) and accompanying fact sheets, are helpful in assisting children with homework. it is also useful for clarifying curriculum jargon.
The assignment help section provides an overview of key assignment tasks with links to approved websites giving additional information. While the App does have a disclaimer that the sites are external and so they are not responsible for content this reviewer was impressed with the sites chosen. The external links may concern some parents – but it should be noted that the links open within the Schools A-Z app and do not act as a portal to the internet (other than the pre-selected site).
Two sets of mini games are also available – times-tables and spelling. Spelling is particularly useful with the option for parents and teachers to create spelling lists unique to the child, recording the word and its context in a sentence.
