Shadowmatic is a problem solving game where players rotate 3D shapes until the shadow forms an object. This app may be beneficial for developing children’s mental rotation skills and knowledge of shapes in a 3D space. The player uses their fingers to rotate the shape in multiple directions. The levels begin simply with a single shape and a picture of the desired shadow, and progress to multiple shapes without a picture to guide the player. The player can ask for hints if necessary. Parental guidance is recommended for ages 5-8 due to online information, in-app purchasing, and game difficultly.
The beginning levels include tutorials explaining how to play the game. There are different levels of hints, from small word suggestions to full descriptions of the shadow. The free version of the app comes with 14 levels, you must pay for the rest of the levels. The player has the option (it is not forced) of connecting with their game ID to compare their score with other players online. The player can also connect to social media to share their scores with their friends. A strategy for safer game play is to disable the internet on your device. This will prevent the player from accessing online connections but still allow them to play the game.
· The app offers the player the option of paying for the full access version of the app. It costs $3.89.
