This review of Star Walk contains the following information:
All levels reviewed.
This App allows the user to explore the sky and astronomical features (eg phases of the moon) simply by holding their phone to the sky. The App works both at night time and day time.
Versions of the App have been available since 2008. Now available on most tablet platforms, this tool is a great way of connecting beyond the screen. Using GPS data the App can pinpoint your place in the world and show the stars, planets and even satellites in your sky at that time. Clicking on objects gives more detail and further information. The picture of the day feature (in the gallery) allows the user to view an amazing image of space, often captured by unique camera views such as the Hubble telescope. The live sky and gallery tools allow the user to look ahead at astronomical events and items such as phases of the moon, sunrise etc. The search tool is also useful and allows the user to search for specific stars, satellites and constellations.
When using the app with young children assistance may be required, particularly in reading text. As a tool however, its simple interface and unique ability to open up the world to outerspace makes it valuable for all interested in astronomy.
