This review of Star Wars Puzzle Droids contains the following information:
Level 101.
This game is based on events that take place in the latest movie instalment of Star Wars: “The Force Awakens”. The game depicts the icons/tiles that need to be matched in the game as the droid: BB-8’s electrical circuits. Matching the tiles is seen as unscrambling BB-8’s circuits and hence restoring his memory of the events that take place in the movie. Gems and Memory Discs are earned by completing levels. These can be used to unlock further levels or purchase special move items which help you to complete challenging levels (e.g. BB-8’s torch will clear up to 5 connected circuits in one move).
Most children would be able to play this game as it is not too difficult to match three identical tiles. However, as the tiles above fall down to take place of tiles below, some strategic planning is required – particularly for harder levels. Some children may become frustrated with harder levels and hence be more inclined to use their special moves to progress further (and unlock their favourite scenes from the movie, which they may know are coming next). The problem with using your special moves is that there are a limited number of them and they can only be obtained by spending your gems. As it takes a long time to earn gems, the next step is to buy them with real money. To put this into perspective, the current reviewer only completed 42% of one area, and only has 30 gems left. To buy 1 special move (e.g. BB-8’s Torch) you would need 110 gems. The concern here is that if children recommence playing this app on their parent's device (and their parent made an iTunes purchase less than 15 minutes beforehand), then making a further purchase may not require entering the password again (for more information on password settings for iTunes, click here: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204030). Seeing as the highest purchase on this game is $119.00, some parents may need to be aware of their password settings. Other than in-app purchasing, the reviewer found no other real concerns with the app.
