This app was reviewed for approx. 40 minutes.
Steppy Pants is a 2.5 dimensional walking simulation app. The objective is to walk down a straight path, collecting coins and avoiding cracks in the path. The skills required are planning, comprehension and motor skills.
When the app is first opened, the player is shown a street with the instruction “tap anywhere to step.” The player can tap and hold the screen to make the in-game character take longer steps along the path. If the character steps on a crack, or holds the button for too long and steps too far, the game ends. When the game ends, the player is presented with a flashing “Special Delivery” sign. Tapping this shows a bouncing present on the screen, that when tapped, unlocks a prize for the player. When the player has a certain number of coins, another flashing sign appears, which says “Win a Prize”. Tapping this takes the player to a stylised slot machine. The player can spend 100 in-game tokens to use the slot machine once. The player has a random chance of winning certain prizes. After finishing the game, sometimes the player is offered a flashing “Earn a Prize” button. This shows the player an advertisement video (often seemingly for casino apps) and then rewards the player with 20 in-game currency.
Within the app is a section where the player can purchase additional clothing items for their character. These cost real money and range in price from $1.49 for a single piece, to $4.49 for a full 3 piece character costume. Some of the in-game character costumes are visually frightening, such as the zombie and skeleton costume.
Yes: The player can purchase additional clothing items for their character. These cost real money, and range in price from $1.49 for a single piece, to $4.49 for a full 3 piece character costume.
The app has an online leaderboard but players are unable to communicate with one another.
There is a section within the app where players can use a slot machine, betting their earned in-game currency to receive random prizes. There are numerous ads for online casino apps within the levels of this app. Many of them are videos, and must be manually closed before the player can proceed.
