This review of Targeting Maths 2 contains the following information:
All levels completed.
Targeting Maths 2 is the third part in the series of digital textbooks from this series, with one for each age group K-6. The App practises key mathematics content (as outlined by syllabus documents for the Australian Curriculum) through games and activities.
Targeting Maths engages children with mathematics content for their grade level as outlined by the Australian Curriculum. Children complete activities in three main areas: “training”; “timed” and “multi-player”. Each section has a series of levelled activities and play is rewarded through badges and access to additional games. Activities can be selected for each area of the curriculum including number, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals, measurement, shapes and patterns, money, data and chance.
The games and activities give on-going feedback and there are options to turn off music and sounds if these are distracting to your child or children. Students are given immediate feedback on answers but little explanation is given for incorrect answers and limited opportunity for complex problem solving, reasoning or justifying was evident within this level of play (Targeting maths 2). Parents or teachers can also monitor progress and areas where additional support is needed. In user testing children appeared to enjoy the games with one child commenting “I still don’t love maths but I guess this was better than the text book”.
Please note that this review was based on Targeting Maths 2 – with all games played within this age group, 4 (K, 3, 5 & 6) other age groups were also randomly sampled with no concerning features identified.
