This review of Toca Lab contains the following information:
Not fully reviewed yet.
This App presents a virtual science lab, with animated chemical characters to experiment with. Children are able to investigate a range of scientific objects such as heating with a Bunsen burner, using a centrifuge and freezing – with each animated (and un-named) chemical responding in different ways.
This App is open-ended and offers largely free exploration, with players choosing the tools to use in experimenting with their chemical characters. Simple animations and sounds are engaging but no set task is given and within the App children can explore 118 elements in a table similar to the periodic table. The investigations here can prompt learning of scientific process but there is limited connection to real chemical elements and the play focus is on exploration rather than on set learning tasks.
