This review of Tommy the Turtle – Learn to Code contains the following information:
Several levels.
This problem solving game introduces children to the skills of coding using characters such as ‘Tommy the Turtle’. Players select from a variety of coding commands to make Tommy move in sequence for example, jump, spin, forward, backward, grow and shrink. From the main menu, players can select to go to a tutorial – to learn how to play and, choose free play (where they can make Tommy do what they want) or challenge mode. In challenge mode, players can select a challenge and then are given instructions to follow them to make Tommy move and when they achieve each goal they are advanced to the next level. This was quite tricky, thus players need adequate reading skills .
As mentioned above, players will need to be at a sufficient reading level to follow the instructions in this game. Further to this, following the instructions correctly is quite challenging and several attempts were needed to get it right. This app holds many learning opportunities including learning to code (which is currently a highly-regarded mathematical/technical skill) problem solving, patience, persistence, reading and following instructions carefully.
