App description

Tony the Truck and Construction Vehicles gives the player the ability to control a dump truck and a digger on a construction site and in a natural environment. The player is also able to interact with and affect changes to a small number of environmental objects including clouds, trees, fruit and the sun. The free version comes with two vehicles and screens and an additional four vehicles and screens can be purchased.

Reviewers comments

This app allows players to engage in short construction tasks such as digging, loading and tipping dirt as well as moving machinery around. By tapping the screen once, the player activates the digger to dig up dirt and load it into the dump truck or have the dump truck drive away and tip out its load. There are no instructions supplied, players need to explore the app by randomly tapping to find out what it can do. The basic graphics, bright primary colours and simple format appear to be targeted towards very young children but due to accessibility of in-app purchasing of additional vehicles and background screens parental guidance is recommended for children aged 5 - 8 years.

In App purchasing

• 4 additional background screens with vehicles can be purchased for $4.49.
• These are accessed via a drop-down screen that appears by tapping on a small vehicle in the left top corner during game play.
• Users are required to answer an addition sum correctly which will direct them to the App store to purchase and a password is then required to progress further. Whilst this addition sum uses larger numbers (such as 5+36), which is designed to be above the academic range of the suggested players, it is possible that a very young user could enter the correct numbers.
• There appears to be a problem with the in-app purchasing within the game. When it was purchased the amount was deducted from the reviewer’s credit card and the additional content was available. After playing with one of the purchased vehicles and backgrounds all additional content disappeared and was no longer available.
