This app does not contain levels.
WonderBox is an app that encourages kids to explore topics that they find exciting. They can learn information about a huge amount of topics, participate in creative challenges and share information and their creations with friends.
WonderBox is a collection of YouTube videos, information and activity ideas for kids based around certain topics. The app begins by encouraging the player to make an avatar of themselves. The player can collect coins throughout the game by sharing information and participating in creative challenges. The player can use these coins to ‘buy’ more stickers to decorate their avatar. However, as there is no in-app purchasing in the game you cannot use real money to buy more stickers.
Once they have completed their avatar, the player is taken to the main menu where there are several sections that they can explore. The challenge section of the app gives players creative activity ideas based around certain themes. There are 14 topics that the player can explore: design, animals, world, drawing, people, imagination, space, photography, sports, do it yourself, science, kidpreneur, health and riddles/puzzles. Each of these topics have a variety of options to explore. For example, in the space section the player can watch a video and learn about Astronaut Scott Kelly or learn about the solar system and create a picture based on what they have learnt. In the app, the player can respond to the information they have learnt by creating something. The app has the options of a camera, video, drawing or voice recording to capture the player’s creation. For example, the player could draw a space picture in the app using the drawing function or they could make a real mobile of the solar system, take a photo of it and upload it to the app. The WonderBox section of the app is a page that the players can scroll through and view featured creations from other players, popular challenges and popular topics. From the main menu the player can also add friends to share their creations with (see Online Information for more detail).
WonderBox is an exciting app with a range of activities to participate in and information to learn. The variety of topics makes this app appealing to a variety of children. It also is a good app to encourage children to step away from the screen and build their creations in the ‘real world’.
No: No in app purchasing found.
The app asks for an email address when setting up. If the player is under 13 years old a parent's email address is required. As part of the app, the player can add friends to share content with. Each player is given a unique ‘friend code’, which must be entered in order to add a friend. This ensures that players can only add people they know. If a player is under 13 the parent’s email address is needed to add friends. Parents and family members (such as grandparents) are encouraged to create their own accounts so their child can share their creations with them.
