ACCM review

This review of Zap Zap Kindergarten Math contains the following information:

Each of the three categories played and several stages within each.

App description

This is an educational game aimed at young children which focuses on three main areas of mathematics including adding and subtraction, shapes & measurement and number recognition. The game is played in a space theme where the player sends their rocket to one of three planets with the categories mentioned above.  Within each ‘planet’ or category there are several more stages the player can progress through, unlocking the next stage and earning awards that unlock different spaceships etc.

Reviewers comments

Zap Zap Kindergarten Maths requires an email sign up to play and this can be entered through the ‘parental gate’ which requires you to answer a simple maths problem to progress.  Therefore, the app requires internet access for this to occur but it appears game play can continue without internet from there on.

The level of maths would suit 4-9 year old children, however some of the instructions may be difficult to read for small children and in some games, there are no instructions on what to do at all, so parental assistance may be required. There is potential for a large variety of mathematical learning through this engaging app including mathematical language, problem solving and comparison.

About games and gambling

Most games contain elements of risk, chance and knowledge, that is why they are fun to play. There is growing concern about the impacts of simulated gambling games on the health and wellbeing of children. That's why we are identifying games that contain gambling elements on our site.

The State Government of South Australia's web site http://nogame.com.au/ contains information about these concerns.
