This Children and Gambling Watch List is a part of the Know Before You Load project.
Games appear on this list if they meet one or more of the following criteria.
a) Simulated Casino Style Gambling: Not Suitable for Minors
- Something of value being placed at risk, in the hope of gaining a reward (more items of value), where the outcome is based on pure chance.
- Something of value being placed at risk, in the of hope gaining a reward, where some knowledge and skill may improve player’s chances on a valued outcome, but the outcome is still largely determined chance.
- The game mimic those found in a casino.
- Something of value wagered on the outcome of a race.
- South Australia has legislation which limit minor’s access to these styles of games in the real world. (Bingo, lotteries and sweepstakes)
b) Contains some elements of Gambling: Some content is not recommended for minors. Parental guidance recommended.
- The app provide opportunities to win bonuses through pure chance, where nothing of value is put at risk.
- The app provide opportunities to build or visit casinos.
- The app promote other casino style games as outlined above.
- The app have content which normalises attendance to casinos, playing poker card games and racing.
- Some features (eg sounds/ visuals ) of the game mimic casino style games
In the above instances something of value can be virtual coins, tokens or other items accumulate through playing. These items of value cannot be exchanged for real money but can be purchased through In App purchasing.
