A synopsis of the story

Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) and ex-criminal Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman) are now rookie partners in the Zootopia police force. Eager to prove their worth and apprehend a smuggler, they accidentally destroy a historic statue, damage public property and disband a celebratory parade in the process of detaining him. Chief Bobo (voice of Idris Elba) sidelines them both despite the fact that Judy found remnants of a snake skin in a cage. Determined to find the truth, Judy and Nick head to a gala event in order to see the Lynxley journal – a book that details how the four climates were created in the one city, enabling all manner of species to live together. It is here that they encounter Gary De’Snake (voice of Ke Huy Quan) who is trying to get the book his grandmother wrote in order to prove the innocence of his species. Snakes, and all reptiles by association, were driven from Zootopia over a hundred years ago after they were thought to have fanged and killed a turtle. The Lynxley family falsely accuses Judy and Nick of aiding and abetting the snake, the police jump to conclusions, and soon a city-wide manhunt is underway. Can Judy and Nick help prove Gary’s story and save the city from corruption once again or will the reptile village lie forever in the past, destined to be forgotten and erased?

Use of violenceinfo

Research shows that children are at risk of learning that violence is an acceptable means of conflict resolution when violence is glamourised, performed by an attractive hero, successful, has few real life consequences, is set in a comic context and / or is mostly perpetrated by male characters with female victims, or by one race against another.

Repeated exposure to violent content can reinforce the message that violence is an acceptable means of conflict resolution. Repeated exposure also increases the risks that children will become desensitised to the use of violence in real life or develop an exaggerated view about the prevalence and likelihood of violence in their own world.

There is some violence in this movie, including:

  • Judy and Nick pursue a smuggler and knock him unconscious while he is driving a catering van.
